Ten students between the ages of 13 and 16 are facing criminal charges, police announced on Wednesday, and four other juveniles were also identified, thought hey cannot be charged under Maryland law due to their ages.
In total, the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homeland Security Division has investigated 47 reported threats.
Officials said that the investigations largely found that the threats of violence were being spread throughout social media platforms.
"We take each threat seriously and when possible, we will charge those responsible," a spokesperson for the department said.
"The agency urges parents and guardians to talk to their children about this serious topic as we all collectively work to keep students and staff safe."
